What Triggers Your Eating??? Learn How Discovering Your Hunger Type Can Help You Lose Weight

Outside of becoming hungry naturally when it’s time, certain things my trigger your eating.

On an episode of the Dr. OZ show, Dr. Oz, addresses the issues that people have with eating.  He wanted to help individuals understand their purpose for eating.  Are you just eating to be eating or are you eating because you are really hungry?  To help understand how and why people eat when they aren’t hungry Dr. Oz brought on special guest, Ramani Durvasula, PhD, Clinical Psychologist to speak to the audience about discovering your hunger type.

After announcing her successful weight loss of 85lbs by knowing her hunger type, Dr. Ramani  Durvasula, she share three different hunger types.  Dr. Ramani stresses that

knowing your hunger type is critical because it lets you know how you eat, when you eat, where you eat because it’s ques that sort of overrides what your body really needs.  You are eating for reasons outside of you rather than inside of you. If you know your type then you can stop yourself.

Sensory Hunger Type:

Dr. Ramani says

Sensory eating type are people who are affected by ques, smell, sight, sound.  Those things, even when you are not hungry, sets you off.

Emotional Hunger Type:

Dr. Ramani says

This is the most common hunger type and I think it’s one of the trickiest. This is when you go in and you eat because of how you are feeling not because you are hungry.  You are eating to solve another problem like an emotion.  So now are uses it to numb that emotion and quite often you go way over of how much you need or want to eat in attempting to manage that emotion.  Invariably, you eat too much.

Habitual Hunger Type:

Dr. Ramani says

These are the people who eat according to a schedule.  They look at the clock, if it’s 9 o’clock it’s breakfast, if it’s noon it’s lunch, and they don’t even think about whether or not they are hungry they just use the clock.
