SNEAK PEEK: All-Black “Steel Magnolias” with Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashad, Alfre Woodard and Jill Scott [Video]

It’s finally here!

Lifetime presents the remake of “Steel Magnolias” with an all-black cast.  The network enlisted a veritable list of all-stars including Queen Latifah (M’Lynn), Phylicia Rashad (Clairee), Alfre Woodard (Ouiser), Jill Scott (Truvy), Adepero Oduye (Annelle) and Condola Rashad (Shelby) for the remake, which is being directed by Stick Fly’s Kenny Leon and executive produced by Queen Latifah. Nancy Dubuc, president and general manager of Lifetime Entertainment had this to say about the film:

“The caliber of talent associated with this film is astounding and falls in line with our strategy to make Lifetime a first stop for the industry’s best both in front of and behind the camera. Queen Latifah, Phylicia, Alfre, Jill, Adepero and Condola are some of the most celebrated women in music, film, television and stage — and we could not be more thrilled and honored for them to bring Robert Harling’s poignant story about the strength of women to a whole new generation.”

The film will premiere later this year on Lifetime. Check out the trailer:

  1. I’m really impressed together with your writing talents and also
with the format for your weblog. Is that this a paid theme or did you
modify it yourself? Either way stay up the excellent high quality writing,
it is rare to see a nice weblog like this one today..

  2. Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you knew
of any widgets I could add to my blog that
automatically tweet my newest twitter updates. I’ve been looking for a plug-in like this for quite some time and
was hoping maybe you would have some experience with something like this.

Please let me know if you run into anything. I truly enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to your new updates.

  3. We are a group of volunteers and opening
a brand new scheme in our community. Your
site offered us with helpful information to work on. You have
done an impressive activity and our whole group shall be thankful
    to you.

  4. An outstanding share! I’ve just forwarded this onto a colleague who
has been doing a little research on this. And he in fact ordered me lunch because I stumbled
upon it for him… lol. So let me reword this….
Thank YOU for the meal!! But yeah, thanks for spending some time to discuss this issue here on your website.

  5. When I initially commented I appear to have clicked
on the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and from now on each time a comment
is added I recieve 4 emails with the exact same
comment. There has to be a way you are able to remove
    me from that service? Cheers!

  6. This is a smart weblog. I mean it. You’ve so much knowledge about this issue, and so much passion. You also know the best way to make individuals rally behind it, certainly from the responses. Youve got a design here thats not too flashy, but makes a statement as large as what youre saying. Excellent job, indeed.

  7. This is goin to be GREAT…. I really hope they start remaking alotta other movies with an all
Black cast… I loved the old steel Magnolias so I know this one is going to be bomb..
I can’t wait to see the outcome. Now and Then would be a great remaake as well as an all
Black cast for a new babysitters club series. There are plenty of all White cast movies that
Would benefit from being made over with an all african american cast..
