Is that OPRAH rocking a ‘fro on the cover of “O”?
Yes ma’am it is. As a natural chica myself, it really makes me proud that the media mogul stepped out of her comfort zone to show women of color that natural hair is beautiful.
When I first decided to go natural, it had nothing to do with the fact that I was joining the wave of “going natural,” it was because I was sick and tired of my scalp being FRIED, literally, by relaxers. The last one I got burned my scalp so bad I literally had sores all over my head. After that, I was OVER relaxers and decided to embrace my locs whether they were nappy or not.
Although I’m sure Oprah’s ‘fro is probably a relaxed braid-out, just her expressing the beauty of natural hair on her magazine will do so much for women of color in the natural world. I mean just look at the way she’s beaming on the cover looking all cute and confident, that alone speaks volumes. I mean c’mon, it’s OPRAH anything she says and does is pretty much law!
In the issue, Oprah opens up about her own hair journey and talks about how she rocks her hair curly on the weekends and how she almost made the big chop.
“I wanted to wear it close-cropped, à la Camille Cosby, but her husband Bill convinced me otherwise. ‘Don’t do it,’ he said,” she recalls. “‘You’ve got the wrong head shape and you’ll disappoint yourself.’ I took his advice.”
Wrong head shape? Really? Oprah? WOW! Well I guess he was wrong honey because I don’t see anything wrong with her head shape in this pic. I haven’t been this excited about going natural since I saw the fake photo of Michelle Obama that hit the internet.
So what do y’all think about Oprah rocking her natural on the cover of “O”? Does it give you life????
