As my son got older our conversations lessen. He became more closed in as he gained more access to the outside world through video gaming, internet, and now the telephone. Luckily, a few years ago I realized my son and I shared lots with each other when were in the car alone. We had CARversations.
Recently our CARversation started because……
My son’s father just got him new KD’s about 2 weeks ago, he just had a Spring Break vacation and now tonight at Hawks game with me….while at the Hawks game son see my friends son with his J’s on and say
Son: mom can I get some J’s
Me: DIDN’T YO DADDY JUST BUY YOU SOME SHOES? AND YOU SITTING HERE AT THE GAME!!! BOY JUST BE HAPPY WHERE YOU ARE WATCH THE GAME!!!
ENDED THAT CONVO QUICK LOL …….ON TO THE NEXT
On our ride home he ask
Son: mom, how old you have to be to work? 16 right?
Me: Yes son. But no kid of mine will work until they graduate high school. All I need you to do is focus on school.
Me: Even if I did let you work it would be only during the Summer and you would probably only make about $7/hr
Son: Isn’t minimum wage higher than that?
Me: Yeah. It’s still only like $7.50. Get your calculator out. Do $7.50 x’s 8 (hours) what you get?
Me: Do that $60 times 5 (days of the week=40 hours). What you get?
Me: and that’s before taxes.
Son: What’s that?
Me: Other people that take your money (lol)
Son: to help with the roads and stuff?
Me: Yeah so they say. You’d be better off just mowing the loan or something for some people for like $20 a yard. At least you don’t have to work all them hours for that little money. By the time taxes hit and you buy them $150+ shoes you want….your check gone be gone.
Son: Looking like wth?
Me: By the time you 16, your mom will have a job for you to work in her business if you want so ….dont worry.
Love the conversations that go on on my son and I rides. They are so priceless I tell ya….I’m sure he learn a lot during that time 🙂
