Mattel To Create Beautiful & Bald Barbies For Children With Cancer

Mattel, the makers of Barbie, are in the process of producing a bald fashion doll for children who have loss their hair due to illness or cancer.

“These dolls, which will be a friend of Barbie, will be distributed exclusively to children’s hospitals and other hospitals treating children with cancer throughout the U.S. and Canada, directly reaching girls who are most affected by hair loss,” said Mattel Company spokesman Alan Hilowitz in a statement.

They have started up a campaign via Facebook, in an effort to get support from people before they launch it. The Beautiful and Bald Barbie fan page has already accumulated over 150k “likes.”

The bald Barbie will include “hats, scarves and other fashion accessories to provide girls with a traditional fashion play experience. For those girls who choose, the wigs and head coverings can be interchanged or completely removed.”

The bald Barbie will be distributed exclusively to children’s hospitals and other hospitals throughout the US and Canada who are treating children for cancer, according to Mattel.

Of all the dolls Mattel has created with the Barbie, I think this is the most important and influential doll. There are so many children that are suffering from illnesses and cancer so why not have a doll they can relate to. I think it’s an excellent idea and I hope they follow through with it.
