Winter brings with it some new fashion trends in women’s shoes. Personal style and appeal is possible, even when the months turn colder. Designers are working on creating fashions that are not only stylish and unique, but also functional. With colder weather and slick roads and sidewalks, having a shoe that will keep you safe and comfortable is also important.

In the past years knee high boots with high heels were very popular. While they looked great, they were not very practical. There is not much point in looking fabulous in your boots if you end up slipping on some ice on your way to the party. The winter of 2013 is maintaining the knee high boot style with a flat sole. Techno boots are being offered with a flat ribbed rubber bottoms. These make walking easier while still keeping up with the latest trends. Another option are platform boots. These design elements are found in ethnic and biker styled boots, both of which are going to be featured this winter. The platform sole is easier to walk in, but it still gives you some height.

Aside from the design aspect, texture and material is still important if you want trendy shoes. Fur is still extremely popular, as it was the year before. This material is still going to be prominent in the 2013 winter styles. Fluffy faux fur is featured around the upper level and/or instep of the boot, which helps with insulation and comfort while looking awesome. Other materials are going to be used in combination, creating an interesting meeting of textures. Some popular materials this winter will be suede, leather, velvet, wool, and other knitted fabrics. Watch for these used in combination with one another.

Color is another thing to watch for with your new trendy shoes. For the new season, earth tones will be prominent. Browns, olives, tans, grays, and reds are popular. For a little extra kick, mustard and white will bring attention to your feet. Remember to match whatever colors with other outerwear like your jacket, vest, hat and gloves. Think of your outfit as a whole, including your shoes or boots.

The lacing and hardware is what will set these shoes apart from the previous season. Lacing and straps along with metal buckles are popular. The way the shoe comes together is one of the finer details that really add to the uniqueness. Look for furry knee high boots with straps, ethnic shoes with fringe, and biker boots with metal buckles.

Depending on where you live, you might want to have a couple of different options available. Knee high boots are great for cold weather and snow. Milder regions can get away with shoes and ankle boots. Even if you live in an area that gets hammered with snow during the winter, having a couple of fashionable shoes on hand can come in handy for changing into once you are inside. Dress in a way that is comfortable, functional, but also stylish and fun! Leggings, knee socks, and leg warmers can also be used with your shoes and/or boots.
