I know we’re in the technology age and that things have changed drastically for kids nowadays. Hell, my nine year old nephew has a cell phone and I don’t remember getting my very first one until I was in high school.

When I first joined Facebook, I thought the user age, 13, was a bit too low already considering that most users are people that are between the ages of 25-34. Most of us are on there to network, catch up with old classmates, and some to look for love. Well, Mark Zuckerberg has come up with this really great idea (so he thinks) to lower the user age for Facebook. REALLY?

According to Black Enterprise, Facebook has been having a really hard time convincing Wall Street that it can continue to produce the amount of revenue it has been since the beginning of time. Apparently, Wall Street isn’t trying to hear that so Zuckerberg had to try and come up with another method. He is considering lowering the user age in hopes of increasing his user accounts and producing revenue beyond the $1 billion mark. Lowering the user age will make this possible as to children who are younger are liable to click on damn near anything that looks interesting to them. As we all know, that’s how Zuckerberg makes his money from the ads that are constantly popping up on the side.

Now my question is, how low is he considering taking the user age? How far can you really go, 10? Facebook is supposed to be a place for networking for adults and some things seriously need to be left only to the accessibility of adults. Hell, I see tons of irresponsible ass adults on Facebook on a day-to-day basis taking ass shots, posting tit pics and all sorts of inappropriate things that should be getting “flagged as inappropriate,” but instead people are clicking “like” and commenting. People updating their statuses with all kind of drama and beefing with exes, baby mamas/daddies, etc. So how is a child who is not yet even a teen going to be responsible enough to deal with all of that foolishness.

According to The Wall Street Journal, parents will have the ability to control what their child sees, who their friends are and also their privacy settings, but seriously who has time to do all that? Parents nowadays barely have time to read their kids a bedtime story and tuck them in at night, much less go through their Facebook page with a fine tooth comb.

How is this going to be an effective way for parents to keep their children from being exposed to adult content as well as pedophiles already lurking for those 13 year old users that are already on Facebook? Just the other day there was a report in the news about a forty plus year old man who raped a 15 year old girl, so how are parents going to keep their younger kids safe from such things.

I know for Zuckerberg, it’s all about making money, but he needs to reconsider. He just got married a few months ago, would he want his young children on any social network under age 13. Kids are already growing at such a rapid pace with all the technology surrounding them. The kids nowadays don’t even know what it’s like to go outside and play, instead they’re inside with a video game remote control in their hand or on their iPad, iPod or MacBook already.

What do you all think? Is this a good move for Facebook or has Zuckerberg lost his damn mind???
