Real Housewives of Atlanta, Cynthia Bailey graces the cover of Shustring Magazine for its January/February Power Issue. Inside this issue the model, actress, and TV Personality shares power moves she’s made that help to advance her career.
What was your biggest adjustment moving from Alabama to New York to become a supermodel? Did you have any fears that you had to overcome? If so, what were they?
My biggest adjustment moving from Tuscumbia, Alabama to New York City when I was eighteen years old was overcoming my small town mentality, and believing that I had what it took to become a successful model in the big city. I was clueless to the industry and had no idea what I was doing. I just knew in my heart that I had to try. I had to make it work. This was an opportunity of a lifetime. It was now or never. I loved growing up in a small town but I always dreamed of traveling the world. I believed that success was my passport. I remember being fearless and afraid all at the same time. Failure was not an option. (via shusrtingmagazine.com)
As a model, what inspired you to give reality TV a shot? How has being on Real Housewives of Atlanta changed your life?
I moved from New York City to Atlanta after I met and fell in love with my husband of five years, Peter Thomas. He had just moved from Miami to Atlanta to open Uptown Restaurant and Lounge. I had no idea when I moved there a year later I would become part of THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ATLANTA cast. After being approached by a friend of a friend who was interviewing women for the show, I decided to take the meeting out of curiosity. Reality TV does not come with a manual. I had no idea how it all worked. Long story short, a meeting turned into a conference call, and the conference call turned into a screen test. The rest is history. Being on Bravo’s wildly popular hit number one reality show has been life changing. It comes with its share of challenges of course, but as a businesswoman the platform has been amazing. What inspired you start your own eyewear line?
I have always loved eyewear. Sunglasses, fashion glasses, and readers. I wear a lot of fashion glasses on the show and my fans would always ask me who makes my glasses. So, I decided to create my own line (www.cynthiabaileyeyewear.com). I love fashion and I love accessories. I am building an accessories empire and my Cynthia Bailey Eyewear is the lead out. I have bags, hats, and watches coming soon. (via shustringmagazine.com)
