Give me a moment while I drool….
Okay, I’m back now!!!!
First things first, where in the hell have I been that I missed Morris Chestnut covered Rolling Out magazine. Anyone that knows me knows that I have been in love (lust) over this man since Boyz In The Hood. And anyone that knows me even better, knows that there is nothing that gets my blood boiling than a chocolate man with a goatee. Ahhhhhhhh!!!!
The one time I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Chestnut was while at Gold’s Gym in Ellenwood, GA (which is no longer there) I nearly fainted. He wouldn’t take a picture with me because he was all sweaty from working out, but he did sign his autograph, which I misplaced during a move.
Anywho, enough about me. Mr. Chestnut and all his chocolaty goodness, sat down with Rolling Out magazine to dish on his role as Halle Berry’s boyfriend in his upcoming movie ‘The Call,’ how he’s been in the acting game so long, a few of his bad habits and what we all want to know about, ‘The Best Man’ sequel.
Excerpts and more pics below:
On getting the call for the role in ‘The Call’ with Halle Berry
It was difficult. It was difficult. I mean it was going to be a deal breaker. They said they wanted me for the movie and I said ‘who’s playing that role,’ they said ‘Halle’ and I said ‘I don’t know if I can do it. I have to kiss her and stuff.
On how his wife feels about him kissing actresses
My wife knows that she’s number one,” he says seriously. “And this is just work. They are beautiful people and they’re beautiful women, some of them inside and out, but I just definitely keep it professional.
On his upcoming movie ‘The Call’
The movie used to be called ’The Hive’ and the Hive is basically the call center for 911 calls and, whenever you place a 911 call, it goes to one central location and basically she’s a 911 operator,” he says. “She gets a call about a child abduction and finds out that there’s a murderer on the loose and I play her boyfriend who is a police officer. While she’s stuck in the call center, I’m out on the road pursuing the murderer.
On his career longevity
Timing. First and foremost, God. Being here is a blessing from God, but it’s [also] timing and understanding things a little bit better and doing things a little differently.
On his bad habits
I love watching football more than any other sport. I sit at home on Sundays and just watch football all day
I wouldn’t recommend for anybody to get into [it] because, with poker, you really have to put in a lot of hours to be good at it and, if you put in a lot of hours and you’re not good, you lose a lot of money and, even when you make the right decisions in poker, you can play a hand perfectly and you could still lose the hand.
On The ‘Best Man’ Sequel plot
Everyone is coming back for this movie.
I can’t really reveal that. You’re going to have to see the movie,” he teases. “I will say that my character is still married. I will say that he’s going through some things,” he says when pressed a little further. And then he makes a promise that every fan wants to hear: “I can say that it’s probably going to be better than the first one.
