A couple of weeks ago, my mom invited me and my sisters to join her and her women’s group on a retreat. This past weekend, we all went up to the cabins in Ellijay, GA and had the time of our lives. My sisters and I had been thinking about starting our own group before we even learned about my mom’s and this really made us want to start gathering up ladies to get this thing on and popping.
We spent three wonderful, relaxing days in the cabin just eating, laughing, sharing and having fellowship. There were about 20 of us total and YES we all got along. They had plenty of activities for us to do that would help us to get to know each other and most importantly know and learn a little bit more about ourselves. The whole idea was for us to have some much needed “me time” and network with other ladies.
One thing we did do was eat TONS of food. One of the members of the A One Ladies Association was a caterer and I swear she thought she was cooking for at least 100 people with the feasts she prepared for us daily.
We made t-shirts that said positive things about ourselves and they gave us socks. In the pics below you’ll see us all sitting in a unity circle lighting a candle declaring our sisterhood. In the circle, we said “I am my sister’s keep, so let your light shine” and lit the candles. Then we went on to tell what we were thankful for. Most of us were thankful to have met such a positive group of sisters that we could now call our extended family and connected with on the trip as well.
I really had a great time with the ladies and I’m looking forward to doing more things with them. My sister and I did decide to join the group after spending the weekend with the ladies even though we’re still in the process of starting our own. I think it’s a great idea to be surrounded by such positive, like-minded ladies and that we all got along with no problem. Our mission is to start our group and build the same type of relationship, friendship and sisterhood so that we can get rid of the stereotype that black women can’t get along. I’m so excited about not only joining A One Ladies, but also getting my own group started. Take a look at the full gallery below. I actually didn’t add all the pics because there were just TOO MANY!!!
